Jeff Locke is definitely underrated in the Pirates system. He profiles very similar to Paul Maholm.

One thing to remember about Gorkys: Looks like he’ll be a very good defender. According to total zone, he has saved 57 runs in his MILB career in nearly 1500 chances, for a TZ/150 of 23.6. Regressing 50% still gives a +12 CFer

I saw Alvarez quite a few times during the year. Although his error total was very high this year (25), in all of the games I saw him he seemed like a pretty solid defender, but didn’t have much range. He’s got a cannon for an arm and he seemed fine at picking up the balls he got to. Even made a few above average plays on hard balls at him. It seemed like he’d be a decent enough defender to leave there for a little while. Maybe an Aramis Ramirez type. Could just be the games I saw, though.

Does “filthiest” mean best defender? or worst defender? judging by the context I’m taking it that it means best

I played against Alvarez back when he was playing for the Bayside Yankees and he was the filthiest defender at 3b I had ever seen. I take it that filling out has eroded most of that skill for him.
