Plate Discipline with Averages

Added a quick little feature that people seem to have wanted for a while now. You can now click on the “show average” button:

If you click on the button it brings up the averages for each year:

You can then click on the show averages button again to hide the average data.

I realize it’s a little tricky to read and there are definitely better ways I can think of doing it, but I feel this is a nice stopgap until I can do things how I would have preferred. This will probably make its way into some of the other tables too, like the advanced data section.

    Dave,

How to navigate to that page? When I select Teams and have bars highlighted for Team Totals, Batters, All, Plate Discipline there is no “averages” button. So this isn’t the right place, but I can’t find it. Thanks.

What does the average refer to – league average, MLB average?

ok – looks like league average. very nice to have a baseline to compare against. Be nice to have that in general for non-traditional stats.

God you make it easy on people who write fantasy articles — 20 minutes of research here, along with a stop over at the baseball cube and you’ve got yourself a full fledged fantasy article. A 3 hour article only takes an hour now.

I couldn’t have imagined trying to figure out Alexei Ramirez without this site –

Now, if only you could make a mouse_over for what percentile they’re in. We all know that averages are worthless :P

I honestly believe this site has significantly increased the intelligence level of baseball talk all over the net.

Sweet! Could you guys put that up for other stats too? Things like batted-ball data and pitch type data can be difficult to estimate without having the league average.

Echoing what others have said, this website’s ability to mesh relevant, insightful analysis, information gathering-capabilities that are second to none and publisher flexibility vis-a-vis reader feedback makes this place the first website I go to for all things baseball. This is great stuff.

Would also love to see these make their way to the advanced table as well (noticing that you entertained the idea).

Just wanted to concur the awesomeness of this. Context to those more arcane numbers is key! How bout quin tiles or thirds to know a little more about the league range?
