Player Links: Beta
I was feeling the player comments was a bit of a false start, so in an effort to try out some new features, it’s been replaced by the Player Links section, which I think could be particularly useful for both our readers and writers.
For any player you can enter in a link to a particular article that is relevant to that player along with a brief description of the article or short quote from the article. Feel free to submit links to your own work as well as links to whatever news, analysis, or commentary you feel would be useful to FanGraphs visitors for that particular player.

Quick question, what does the red “Remove Player” button do on the players page.
That’s if you have the player added in the My Team feature, you can remove him from your team on his player page. If he’s not on your team it will just be a green button which you can use to add him to your team.
Why can’t we have win values for pitchers from before 2002?
If they are getting the data from BIS (I assume they are), it only goes back to 2002.
vr, Xei
I guess we could do win values prior to 2002, but we can only do batters back to 2002 because of the fielding data, so it keeps things consistent.
I don’t like using any GB/FB/LD data prior to 2002 either, since it’s sometimes a bit strange.
You’re sure you want to leave the article commentary/summary up to the readers? I’m not sure of a better way to do it, but I don’t know if that’s the best idea.
If it’s done in a community-oriented way I think it could have some very positive effects. By providing a ‘rank up’ or ‘rank down’ feature with some sort of rating system for each user as well, you could weight suggestions such that people could sort through them without having it end up as spam and self-promotion.
Allow each person to suggest (or endorse) certain links, and then cross-reference those with their username, so you can search to see which links a certain user promotes, or which links get the most endorsements or whatnot, to have it act as a aggregate blogroll of sorts.
We’ll see how it goes. Adding some Digg functionality would definitely be better, but that’s probably not going to happen right away.
Great feature!
Would it be possible in the Player Search to Bold the names of those that are currently playing? It would make it easier to scan the list for the player we are interested in. I think Baseball Reference does something similar with AllStars, Hall of Famers, etc…
Love the site!
By the way, I am having trouble viewing Tango’s article from December.
What kind of trouble? Seems to be loading ok for me.
I liked the player comments better.
