Using sabermetrics you come out with a -1 win value for Gagne's 2008, but it seemed like every time he got the ball he coughed up the game. Again and again, in comes Gagne, and less then 10 minutes later Ned Yost trots back out to the mound to bring in a lesser paid and more effective pitcher, the ball resting in a "lucky" fan's some hand 430' away from home plate. Coupled with the Jorge Julio signing, it's going to be a long 7th and 8th inning for the Crew this season. As a Brewers fan, this seems like one of the worst signings of the offseason. Since he was -1 win it would take +1 win just to get back to 0. Sure, they could call up someone from the minors to deliver +1 win production, but the fair market value of that win is $4.6 mil. So, what I said isn't wrong, I just should have used the term fair market value instead of saying it would have cost them. Not entirely.
