Little disappointed that the Reds didn’t even get a mention here. Word from our camp was that it was down to the Reds and Cards. See Morosi on Fox Sports.
Obviously, as a Reds fan, I think they’ve got a shot, but they need some offense. I’m not sure DeRosa was the answer for the Reds, since he would have likely played outfield and we’re a little heavy there. But that could have freed up an OF for tradebait to bring in another solid starter instead of sending Bailey out there every 5 games.

I think Shapiro didn’t say that actually – I’m pretty sure the quote was “that would NOT necessarily be accurate” (I paraphrase) when he was asked if it would be someone who might be 2 years away from MLB. I could be wrong here but I’m pretty sure that was the case. Todd/Samuel could still very well be on the table. Todd would be a real coup for the tribe IMO.

@ Shaun — Right, I’m fully aware it can’t be anyone just drafted, and for it to be someone drafted last year I think there still would be a wait. I don’t think it would be Pete Kozma, perhaps Adam Reifer or Niko Vasquez? Francisco Samuel was mentioned as a possibility by Ken Rosenthal, I believe, but the Cards have made him pretty much untouchable.

Shaun – From what I have read, CLE has to make a decision on the PTBNL by the end of the minor league season (8/31). That would make it impossible to be a guy drafted this year.

But couldn’t it be someone who was just drafted, and they are using the PTBNL so that they can trade him (in 11 months or so). If we knew when the decision had to be made by, we’d have a better idea.

According to Shapiro, it’s someone of significance and is at least two years away. The Cardinals don’t have much in the lower minors that wasn’t just drafted, so I’m actually pretty puzzled as to who it might be.

And let’s not forget the all-important PTBNL that, well, will be named later by the Cardinals. Any thoughts as to who it might be? :)
