The Quick Glossary
In an attempt to make the site a little easier to use for newcomers or really just anyone, I’ve implemented a quick glossary in the player pages.
Just click on the quick glossary button in any section on the player pages and you’ll get a quick overview of all the stats in that section. This will probably make its way into the leaderboards too.
Someday we’ll get around to updating the actual glossary….

Wonderful. I’ve always liked being able to quickly look up the meaning of a stat that I’m looking at.

I’m new here and I have a question. I was looking at the Braves/Gnats game graph on 4/21 and the WPA associated with each player. Do fielding or base running errors factor in to this at all? Matt Diaz had a fielding error that cost a run. So how is his WPA positive (or is it just based on batting). Also, Martin Prado got thrown out at third base for the final out when Chipper Jones was batting. Top of the next inning, Chipper hits a single. I don’t think this gets factored into Prado’s WPA even though it was extremely crucial for the game. Any explanation would be appreciated.
WPA does not take into account fielding at all. Any part of the play (that isn’t specifically broken out into a separate play), will be attributed to the batter and the pitcher. If it’s a non-batting play, such as runners advancing, etc… things will be attributed to the pitcher and the lead runner.
Just kind of the way it is and there’s not a whole lot I can do about it. Over the course of a season these things tend to even out too.

Just wanted to take this as an opportunity to say this site is amazing and I visit tens of times a day.
I have one quick unrelated observation. In the advanced batting statistics BB% is BB/PA but K% is K/AB. At least that is what it looks like to me. Is this discrepancy on purpose. It seems to me it would be better if they were both per PA.
Does that take into account being hit by a pitch? Because I’m pretty sure that is taken as a PA but not an AB, while a K always is an AB.
This site is beyond fantastic…the only small thing i can think of that is currently missing is minor league batted ball data
I think this would be a good time to ask a question about win shares. I was wondering if having “good” players affected a player’s win share. For example will a good player like Ryan Doumit have a higher win share simply because he is on a bad team? Conversely will a better player (for example Russell Martin) have a lower win share because he is on a team with a larger amount of good players?
From what I understand it is all individual, but a confirmation would be nice.
