Now that Seattle got some minor league pitching back in the Washburn deal, the Snell + Wilson deal seems a bit more reasonable (sending away three minor leaguers seemed to put a big hole in their system).

Wilson's UZR is among the highest this year. That might not indicate a true talent change, but the guy makes unbelievable plays in the hole and has always been among the best a starting double plays.

Monday night, Randy Winn hit a ball in the hole. Wilson likes to do a popup slide to get a faster release, but with Winn running he knew that even that would take too long. From his right knee, Wilson threw a one-hopper to just barely beat Winn, who made it down the line in 4.2 seconds, not bad for a right handed batter.

When you see Wilson play day in and day out, you will be very pleasantly surprised. Jack Z had that opportunity for years and he paid a fairly high price for him so what does that tell you.

Sounds like Z wants to keep Wilson beyond 2010. Considering their options the last few years, I like that idea. Snell still has a lot of potential despite his attitude and struggles and Pittsburg is paying for them this year. I like this deal for both teams.

3 million + perhaps going to the M's. I actually really like this deal for Seattle. Having an anchor at shortstop is huge for a team.

Snell strikes me as a guy who mentally checked out of Pittsburgh a long time ago and just stopped caring. If he re-engages, I think he could be much better than his past performance would indicate. Great guy to take a chance on.

Cash is going to SEA. SEA paying only 400k apiece for their two new pieces.

One thing I've always thought about deals where low-minor league arms are traded is that the team giving them up knows a lot more about them than the team getting them. It's a good bet the M's are fairly confident they aren't giving away all that much, and Pittsburgh is just hoping they're wrong.

If there is cash going to Seattle as part of the deal, does it change your opinion?

How much would have to go to even out this deal from your perspective?
