Eric,

While Lee's season has certainly been built around outstanding fundamentals rather than a fluky strand rate or BABIP, do you think it's likely that he will be able to continue his success in 2009 and beyond? Obviously he's not a true talent 2.48 FIP guy, but do you think that Lee has re-invented himself? Despite the outstanding peripherals, I just can't help but think this is an insane career year for a guy that's never had a K/BB over 3 or a BB/9 under 2.

Halladay's record is probably going to get him overlooked, but he has been incredible and is closest to Lee in terms of FIP (with more K's.) One could certainly argue he's Lee's biggest competition and in some respects has been as good or better. Seven complete games!

If Saunders has a particularly good September, he could be considered a candidate. Like Cliff Lee, he's a guy for whom the numbers have simply been there: 14 wins, 3.07 ERA. I'm not arguing that Saunders is deserving of the Cy Young somehow, but the Angels are going to stomp into the playoffs and Saunders will be viewed as a big part of that. Moose is also a darkhorse if he has a great September and the Yankees make the postseason.
