I don't think I've ever seen any defensive stats but when people talk about a team being strong up the middle they could have been talking about the Reds. Bench, Concepcion, Morgan and Geronimo were all above average defensively though I think you could find players that were better at each position (say Boone or Maddox).

I have no idea what I'm looking at with regard to the graphs. Is one K/9 and the other BB/9?

You say to look "at the graph below" to see their strike out percentage, but then you also mention the same graph deals with walks.

You forgot something: "Combine an offense that loves walks with a pitching staff that hates them and a good set of fielders, and you get a pretty nifty team."

How common were homers in those days? What percent of balls in play league-wide became homers (and what is the percent these days)? It seems like a strategy of just letting the batter put the ball in play and then counting on the defense will work better the fewer homers there are...

fun stuff. folks can get picky about grammar, but one can also get picky about graphical presentation. how about some labels on those figures? dots and numbers don't convey the information alone! it takes time, but your readers will appreciate it.

I think it's Rawly Eastwick. His brother Randy was an all-star wiffle ball pitcher.

Positive or negative ions' less coverage?

It's true about the relative anonymity of that staff--though I recognized every position player in the earlier post, I'm familiar with only a few of these pitchers.
