nice piece. you didn't quantify Beltran's baserunning contribution, but BPro has the numbers: +5 and +6 runs in 2007 and 2008.

If you want to go even further, you could consider his throwing ability with the plus/minus system doesn't include. I have him as a plus-arm in CF, probably worth about 3 runs (above average) per season or so.

qqqqqq,

That's the key point - he makes it look easy. I'm a Phillies fan, and it's funny how many people think Victorino is superior in the field to Beltran. Don't get me wrong, I love Shane, own his jersey, and feel he's a fantastic defender, but balls he scurries to, Beltran can glide to with ease and make look easy. People getting to watch him play CF are spoiled and therefore more likely to undervalue his defense.

Too bad a lot of Mets fans think Beltran is overpaid. They probably have the image of Beltran striking out in the 2006 NLCS game engraved in their minds (I think he was the final out?). They also probably undervalue his amazing defense (he makes it look so easy and that anyone can do what he does).

Craig, yes, I apologize for that. I made the corrections and apparently forgot to save? It's all up there now. With PAs, not ABs, and the +2 wins to make him above replacement level, he's 6.5 wins, worth 1 yr-31 mil.

"Therefore, Beltran is worth +21.5 runs compared to a replacement player, or a little over two wins."

Shouldn't it be +21.5 compared to an average player and +40-ish compared to replacement level, making Beltran a 6.5 win player?

Also, you inadvertently used AB instead of PA.
