Off the top of my head I would have said Dave Bush, but it looks like his K-rate wouldn’t put him on your radar. Maybe his ‘06 is weighted too heavily in my mind.

as an Orioles fan, I feel obligated to bring up Daniel Cabrera

of course everyone knows his problem – control! but isn’t it a shame to see a durable pitcher with great stuff post up a career >5 ERA?

I think something that needs to be mentioned is the defense he has had behind him for his entire career. The following are his team’s Team Defensive Efficiency for his entire career with the rank in parenthesis:

He has been behind some of the worst defenses in baseball throughout his entire career, which is probably the reason why he constantly posts ERAs higher than his FIPs.

Not really… he’s always given up lots of homers, regardless of the park, and he wouldn’t be spectacular with a better defense, probably a little better ERA wise. But the 2007 defense of the White Sox was certainly not a ton better than 2006 or 2008. There are just some pitchers out there whose stuff doesn’t accumulate great results.
