He’s not exactly cheap, but Punto’s been producing at a rate much better than a 2 win player this year (1.5 WARin 261 PA’s). Saving $4M would be nice, but let’s hope we don’t take that much of a drop in production.

SSS and all, but the guy has shown the ability to hit line drives on a consistent basis – holding a 20.3% LD rate.

As a Twins fan, I certainly don’t expect his recent run to continue…but I do think he will be a productive major league player, even without the glaring power that most people would want out of their third baseman.

If the Twins can get that kind of production (.350 wOBA, +2.5 defense, and 3 WAR) from their third baseman, they will take that any day of the week.

It has been far too long since the Twins have a productive, competent hitter at the hot corner.
