If we are interested in applying, when would the application be due by? Or is it just ASAP?

You guys have cut off applications already? That’s disappointing…I work 9-5, I couldn’t even get an application in.

  7. I don’t usually have cutoffs for applications, but the response for these positions was truly overwhelming and choosing between all the current applicants, which are already overly qualified for research assistants is no easy task. Just goes to show how many really smart people visit the site.

Understandable, I just think it’s pretty rude to announce something like this in the morning, getting people excited that they can apply when they get off of work (and I think it’s safe to assume that many people who frequent this site, maybe even a majority, work a “9-5″ job, and then cut off applications before they can actually even get home to write one up. Heck, I sat down at my computer at 7 to apply (which I thought was being fairly pro-active) only to come to this site and see that you’d cut off apps.

Apparently they’re not the same people that comment on Dave’s Royals pieces. I kid, I kid!

Damn. Would have loved to apply for this. I understand that an overwhelming response is an issue to deal with, but I echo Andy S’s feelings..

Could you post a comment when you’ve made your selections, so as to let us know to uncross our fingers?

Agreed. It would be interesting to get some stats too… number of applications, VORA (Value Over Replacement Applicant) of the people selected…

    • Definitely still working through the applications. We received over 150 applications and I will be contacting people starting next week after the holiday weekend.

Dammit David, I wanted to apply for this but couldn’t.

Doubt the DoD would be too thrilled with me sending job inquiry emails over their network to non-DoD recipients, even if it’s just for on my own time stuff.

Oh well, hope to catch it for the next time you post a job ad and get about 200 of the regular fangraphs visitors* applying within 5 hours

*I see many fangraphs visitors being the guy who got into a good college even though we were more concerned with sports in HS, remained that way in college, majored in math/physics/engineering/economics/etc, and now spend our days working some job with the word “analyst” attached somewhere to the job title or description while counting down to 5 pm so we can go home and watch baseball and cringe every time the announce team has a love fest for some fast guy with a high BA that swings at everything within a 2 mi radius of the plate, possibly while reading archived Fire Joe Morgan posts about HatGuy.

Has anyone heard anything about this yet?

I’m sure everyone who applied is as incredibly antsy as I am!
