"my self-imposed restriction of not ranking 2009 draft picks" (excluding strasburg, for obvious reasons). He doesn't rank 2009 draft picks in his rankings.

Drew Storen is a top 10 prospect. Otherwise, good list.

Gary--

Pudge was signed in order to sign Marquis, etc. Without signing Pudge, I can guarantee you there was little to no chance they would've landed Marquis. The Pudge signing showed people that the Nationals would (over)pay to get their man and that they were serious about it. In addition, the idea of one of the better defensive catchers in baseball history behind home plate is a pretty big attraction for pitchers, something they signed him to provide. In addition, Jesus Flores is looking iffy to be ready for the start of the season, Pudge will provide a short-term answer.

Hopefully Derek Norris develops quickly, otherwise the Nat's will screw up again and sign Pudge to an extension so he can provide "veteran leadership"

Marc, who do you think has more long-term upside: Desmond or Espinosa?

I can't find anything to disagree with here. Well written, Marc.

Just curious, but if you gave in again to your 2009 draft restriction, would you put Storen at #2 or #3?

Also, any insight into the players who just missed the cut?

Destin Hood was signed to go to the University of Alabama, not Auburn.
