Agreed. HR/FB is not a constant value, nor is BABIP. Just because it regresses for most players does not mean it does for all.

Moyer has been behind in the count more this season, but as you say that is only part of the reason (and I think a small part) for the jump in fastballs. Even when he is ahead in the count he is throwing way more fastballs. I would concur. Moyer has been behind in the count in more than a few at-bats this year. I think part of the reason his fast ball percentage is up is that he is down in the count and trying to prevent walks, as some of the others have noted.

the “unsustainablye high 15.3% HR/FB” is caused by the fact that he has to throw more fastballs for strikes (81 mph fastball over the plate = gone)

Moyer often (at least recently) starts throwing more fastballs when umps have a smaller strike zone, to keep his walks down.

I watched Moyer a few days ago against the Mets and he was definitely throwing more fastballs than I remember
