Jeff Sullivan FanGraphs Chat – 8/21/12
My suggested Worst Possible Defensive Infield:
C Jesus Montero
1B Carlos Lee
2B Dan Uggla
SS Yuniesky Betancourt
3B Miguel Cabrera
although that’s using actual position players at their actual positions. Here is my real Worst Possible Defensive Infield:
C Jon Rauch
1B kinda doesn’t matter, but let’s say Edwin Encarnacion
2B Billy Butler
SS David Ortiz
3B Adam Dunn
I vote for Brett Wallace over Miggy, and Jim Thome over Edwin.
Nonsense. If you’re gonna go “out of position” players you need stuff like:
SS Bartolo Colon
If you’re going to get creative, why stick with active players? I tend to think Jim Abbot would make a pretty terrible shortstop, and would probably run into trouble with the running game at catcher.
hooo party foul!
That reply from “This Guy” is vicious(ly hilarious!!!!)
Replace Montero with Miguel Olivo and I’d agree. Montero is bad but Olivo is special bad.
I cite Rob Johnson.
You need more left handed throwers in the batshit crazy one.
For some reason the thought of Jose Altuve playing 1B is hilarious in my head. Let’s go with that.
I initially put Jose Altuve cuz he’s so bleeding short, but I thought some commenter would come along and point out that Jose Altuve is athletic.
The big difference between Carson’s initial Fangraphs articles and Jeff’s is that Jeff comes with hundreds of loyal, snarky, and bitter M’s-fan followers that will throw down if anybody starts to get too bitchy.
Next time will be better! That is the Sullivan Guarantee
Great, another blogger with a huge West Coast bias.
I’m sorry but if you’re not as fascinated by the Padres as I am then I’m not really sure why you’re on this website to begin with.
Seriously though future chats will have a lot less to do with the Mariners. This was just my first one and it’s all going to be a learning experience.
If you know the most about the Ms then don’t be afraid to talk about the Ms. Nobody comes here for chatters who give boring answers to the popular questions. I’d rather see a well thought out Ms answer than you take a stab at something outside your wheelhouse. Of course over time you should gravitate away from single teams, but for now have at it.
Someday the tidal waves of East Coast bias and West Coast bias are going to crash together in the middle of the country and destroy Nebraska.
If Nebraska is destroyed and no one is around, does it make a sound?
Thankfully, due to the mass consumption of deep-fried mayonnaise balls, most Nebraskans will just float safely atop the crests of the crashing waves.
I don’t think enough time was spent on the part about Grant Brisbee being great. Work that in more next time, but like you said, it’s all a learning lesson.
You may like sea otters, but the regular otters of Eastern Washington are big and mean. What if an animal was only as tasty as it was cute?
Thankfully that question will only ever be purely philosophical
This was a fantastic chat, Jeff. I was honestly a little skeptical of the idea because your long-form writing is so good and I didn’t know how your unique skills would translate to this form. It looks like I had no reason to worry!
wow mariners and random stupid shit. worst chat of all time
wow random stupid shit. didn’t even include the mariners. worst comment of all time.
fuck u get off his dick
By the way, looking at chatter names is not necessary. I was just curious. And you’re bound to eventually get questions like “Why is so & so getting his questions answered and NOT ME?” *POUT*
In which case it’s good to know. I think.
I am sad that these are on at 2am my time.
