So one win against a lot of long odds invalidates that the deck is stacked against the Jays, Rays, and Orioles? That Crawford and Soriano leave for the Yankees and Red Sox?

  2. Drew says:

Your parity argument is specious and insulting to our intelligence. “More champions than other sports” is a line best reserved for talk radio types trying to stir up discussion. It means nothing. The Rays won because they had absolutely everything line up–from early picks to sage FA pickups, to a miserable season for the Yankees. That’s not to take anything away from a superb team, but it has nothing to do with a larger discussion of parity. (And yes, I’ve read the damn book.)

The problems caused by the chasm between the Haves and Have Nots are only going to grow worse in the years to come. When guys like you and Joe Sheehan wake up on this issue, we might see SABR push the game toward a long-term solution. Until then, you just appear tone deaf.
