Current NBA players don’t need to sellout future players in the draft because they already did that years ago. Seriously, baseball was the last major sports league without some sort of system in place to keep the money going to drafted players in check.
And baseball also established the lowest slotted money per player. Granted, there are more players, but the average NBA/NFL first rounder can expect to sign for 2-3x as much as the average MLB 1st rounder.
You are both correct IMO. Baseball WAS the final frontier, but spreading money over <10 guys is MUCH different than 50 or so.
CJ Henry and Austin Jackson are two more guys who were signed away from basketball scholarships by the Yankees. Obviously Henry was a huge bust, but Jackson has worked out pretty well (albeit for another team)
Good catch Eric. Jackson was set to go to Ga. Tech to play bball. I’m sure there are many other examples of guys we are simply overlooking.
