Early thoughts on David Dahl? As impressive an early showing as any of the 2012 draft picks? What sort of big leaguer does he project to be?

I’m in the Atlanta area. I’ll have ample opportunity to scout him when he’s in Asheville next season. Any opinion on Dahl based on what he’s doing now would be based on stats and a league I’m not familiar with. I’d rather just wait, see him a handful of times, and then discuss based on first hand accounts.

Wow, I can’t believe Mike actually answered all of my questions, though I wish I liked the answers more (I wish he was higher on some of the Mariners but he knows a heck of a lot more than I ever will). Thank Mike!

Sorry my comments on Mariners guys wasn’t ideal, but I’ve been fortunate enough to see Franklin, Hultzen and Walker. Also, I’ve received a couple of reports from contacts on Paxton. It has been a pretty good year for me in terms of Mariners guys considering my geographic location and the lack of orgs. in traveling distance.

Have you, or are you going to get to Augusta to check out Kyle Crick, Clayton Blackburn and Adalberto Mejia?

    • Mike Newman says:

I have not. Augusta does come to Rome a handful of times in the near future so I might try to check out an arm or two. To be honest, It’s hard for me to set aside the budget to go see a single pitcher. Rome is thin. Augusta has no bats. I wish there were a couple of interesting secondary pieces on either team.

Do you agree with most scouts that Brandon Drury will surpass Salcedo as Chippers replacement?

    • jv says:

I don’t know about most scouts Jason. I’ve heard that most aren’t in love with Drury at all.

I’m a little confused by this question. Who are “most scouts’? I’ve seen a couple of great swings out of Drury this season, but for the most part, he has been completely lost at the plate. Salcedo was better at the same age and same level last season. Also, Salcedo has made incremental improvements at a higher level this season so that’s a good sign.
