NERD Game Scores: Miles Mikolas Recon Opportunity

Devised originally in response to a challenge issued by viscount of the internet Rob Neyer, and expanded at the request of nobody, NERD scores represent an attempt to summarize in one number (and on a scale of 0-10) the likely aesthetic appeal or watchability, for the learned fan, of a player or team or game. Most Highly Rated Game
Houston at Texas | 20:05 ET
Jarred Cosart (100.2 IP, 106 xFIP-, 1.2 WAR) faces Miles Mikolas (5.1 IP, 107 xFIP-, 0.0 WAR). Because he most probably resides within that bubbling cauldron of freedom called the United States, the reader is at liberty to watch, for example, Jake Odorizzi and James Shields face their respective former teams simultaneously in Tampa Bay or Washington-right-hander Stephen Strasburg treat with undue cruelty the Orioles lineup. What this particular game offers, however, is the opportunity to perform invaluable reconnaissance on Texas right-hander Miles Mikolas — which 25-year-old recorded strikeout and walk rates of 20.0% and just 1.6%, respectively, in the PCL this season and apparently also possesses a fastball that sits at 92-93 mph.

Carson, you are quite clearly telling me not to watch my home town team, the Red Sox, tonight. I can’t say that I disagree. In fact, on most nights so far this season, they’ve been fairly unwatchable. Not like in the days of Dice-K, of course, but uninspiring nonetheless.

Astros have the second-highest Team NERD.

Yet I as an Astros fan am dreading watching them because I know they’re gonna lose again. It’s gonna happen. 7 straight already.

It appears Stephen Strasburg is no longer a saint. Why might that be, Monsieur Cistulli?
