Profile: Somehow Barnhart has managed to record 694 plate appearances over the past two seasons, but hasn't exactly rewarded the Reds for their loyalty to him while Devin Mesoraco has lived on the DL. Barnhart owns perfectly decent walk and strikeout rates, along with underlying metrics driving those numbers, but possesses little power and, obviously, no speed. He may have a bit of BABIP upside thanks to his high line drive rate and low pop-up rate, but it's difficult for a slow-footed catcher with no power to shine in BABIP land. With the promise of a healthier Mesoraco, Barnhart's playing time figures to dry up. You also have to think the Reds search for a better alternative if Mesoraco is infected by the injury bug again. (Mike Podhorzer)

The Quick Opinion: With no power and a return to a bench role, there's little upside here, even as a second catcher option in NL-Only leagues.
