RotoWire News: Hunter, a non-roster invitee who's impressed manager Kevin Cash this spring, is expected to be a key part of the relief corps, Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times reports. "We expect him to be pitching in some meaningful situations for us,'' Cash said. (3/21/2017)

Profile: Hunter turned into a decent fantasy option in 2013 when he moved to the bullpen and saw his velocity jump 4 mph. The extra velocity helped to produce a career relief ERA of 3.27. While his strikeout rate out of the bullpen has been subpar (6.9 K's per nine), his walk rate (1.9 per nine) has been elite. The problem is that the 30-year-old saw his skills decline last year. His average fastball velocity dropped 1.7 mph and so did his strikeout rate (7.0 K/9 to 6.1 K/9). He was able to post a career-low home run rate (0.3 HR/9), so his results looked acceptable. Non-elite relievers, including Hunter, have almost no fantasy value unless they are in line for saves. Hunter is going to need to go to a weak bullpen in order to have a remote chance at saves. The Quick Opinion: Hunter has little fantasy value considering his already limited and deteriorating skills.
