Feliz tossed a perfect inning and struck out two batters in a spring game Wednesday. (3/9/2017)
|Profile: Maybe we shouldn't just leave Feliz for dead after all. The righty's fastball velocity bumped back up to 96.1 mph in 2016, which drove his SIERA down to its lowest level (3.36) since the "glory days" in Texas. Feliz's peripherals were pretty much roses across the board in his season with famed pitching coach Ray Searage -- in addition to the velocity, both the strikeout and swinging strike rates jumped substantially. His walk rate was up a bit and we got mixed signals from the batted ball profiles (drop in LD% but increase in HardHit% and subsequently, homers). Feliz has landed in Milwaukee and appears to be in line for their closer's role. He has slowly made his way up draft boards as the market becomes comfortable with him as a second or third closer option, depending on league size and type. (Colin Zarzycki)|
The Quick Opinion: Neftali Feliz saw big improvements in velocity and whiffs during a "rebound" season in Pittsburgh. Still only 28, the question is whether or not he can carry those gains over to his new team, but thankfully the price isn't too high to take a shot.
