Profile: Sit down. Let me tell you a tale. We'll start with the moral of the story - it can pay to stick with baseball. Blanco was a terrible hitting utility fielder from 2004 through 2012. He didn't even appear in organized baseball in 2013. Injuries, maybe? I didn't bother to look it up. The Phillies re-signed him as organizational depth in 2014. "Andres, go help the young folk," decreed Ruben Amaro Jr. from on high. Or maybe it was one of Amaro's minions. I wasn't there. Blanco obeyed with 155 garbage Triple-A plate appearances. Because the Phillies didn't care if they later lost Blanco to waivers, they called him up to fill a backup utility need in the majors. There he managed an uncharacteristic weighted runs created 5% better than average in 53 plate appearances. Ok, small sample. Blanco returned in 2015 to post a 138 wRC+ in 261 plate appearances. Less fluky, but still a small sample. He made $850,000. Thoroughly impressed by the "breakout," the Phillies re-signed Blanco for $1.45 million in 2016 and an even $3 million for the 2017 season. Thus concludes the tale of how a washed up nobody made over $5 million dollars in three years. (Brad Johnson)

The Quick Opinion: If Blanco teaches us anything, it's that we should keep hitting baseballs until we're paid millions of dollars. That said, his fantasy value is still far from reliable.
