Profile: The wars have not been kind to Howard. He's coming off a career-worst -1.0 WAR despite an actually useful season. To find value, we have to drill down to the details. Ignore his miserable 35 plate appearances versus lefties. He should never see a southpaw. His .205/.269/.480 line versus righties wasn't great either. In July, the production picked up with three home runs and a weighted runs created 24% better than average through 38 plate appearances. August included six home runs and a 203 wRC+ in 47 plate appearances. In his last hurrah, he totaled five home runs and a 121 wRC+ in September/October. Howard, now 37, is unlikely to find a major league contract this winter. It's time for the former MVP to shuffle off into the sunset. He'll always have the 572 RBI he compiled during his four-season peak. (Brad Johnson)

The Quick Opinion: The current iteration of Howard is some kind of platoon DH/PH hybrid. And that's some kind of useless with today's roster management schemes.
