Profile: After pitching in pain for most of 2015, Lance Lynn underwent Tommy John surgery in the offseason, missing the entirety of 2016. He should be healthy to start 2017 and looks likely to lock down a starting role in a shorthanded Cardinals rotation. Before his injury, Lynn was a durable workhorse who could generally be counted on for fantasy value; between 2012 and 2015, Lynn's FIP stayed constant between 3.28 and 3.49, though his ERA oscillated more wildly, going from 3.97 in 2013 to 2.74 in 2014. Lynn also showed a shift towards pitching to contact in recent years, dropping his K% from 23.1% (in 2013) to 20.9% (in 2014) and his swinging strike rate from 9.7% to 8.4% -- with his soft contact rate increasing from 18.4% to 22.6%. All this is to say that even if Lynn returns fully healthy, his ceiling will likely be a good bit lower than the SP2 he was back in 2014. Even so, he's a good bet to contribute in wins and ERA, and should provide solid value as you fill out your fantasy rotation. (Brice Russ)

The Quick Opinion: After missing all of 2016 to Tommy John, Lance Lynn looks like he should be ready to return for the 2017 season. His injury gives him some risk and his overall profile doesn't provide much upside, but he's still a good candidate to produce fantasy value in the later rounds.
