Profile: Avilan was part of the 13-player trade that sent Hector Olivera to the Braves and Alex Wood to the Dodgers. He had a poor spring training that sent him to Triple-A to start the season. He was up-and-down with his performance and actually bouncing back and forth from Los Angeles to Oklahoma City. And despite it all, Avilan was solid in 2016. Granted, he threw just 15 2/3 innings in the majors, but his performance was enough to land a postseason roster spot. And, for the second consecutive season, he led all MLB pitches in lowest exit velocity allowed. Of course, he did this in about 33 fewer innings and 100 fewer batted ball events than he did in 2015, but his 81.4 MPH average exit velo. This also happened despite a nearly 2 MPH dip in his fastball velocity. It just goes to show if you're left handed and can throw a baseball with at least some form of accuracy, you will have a job in the majors. (Dustin Nosler)

The Quick Opinion: While he won't be a candidate for saves, especially with Kenley Jansen back in the fold, Avilan should open in the Dodger bullpen in 2017. His FIP has out-performed his ERA for three consecutive seasons and he is great at limiting exit velocity.
