Profile: Volquez is a league-average to below-average pitcher who signs with a team in help fill out the back end of their rotation. For the next few seasons, the 33-year-old will be bringing his subpar talent to South Beach. There is nothing in his skill set to get excited over. His strikeouts have declined from over 9.0 per nine innings in 2010 to 6.6 K/9 last season. His walks are also starting to trend up. Additionally, his 2016 home run rate was over 1.0 per nine for the first time in five seasons. The increase in walks, home runs, and a .319 batting average on balls in play combined to produce a 5.37 ERA. Volquez's struggles started in the second half when his fastball velocity dropped 0.5 mph and an additional 1 mph over the last few games. Overall, he will likely see a nice improvement in his game by facing the pitcher instead of the DH. I don’t think it will matter much, however. He is almost so bad at this point in his career, a fantasy team may be better off using a stud setup man instead of Voquez in leagues where Volquez is being considered. (Jeff Zimmerman)

The Quick Opinion: Volquez's skills have been on the decline for years, and he is barely playable in most formats as a result.
