Profile: More than half a decade ago, Parker was a promising pitching prospect in the D-backs system. As a 20-year-old in Double-A, he missed the second half of the 2009 season and all of 2010 recovering from his first Tommy John surgery. Prior to 2012, the D-Backs traded him with a couple others to Oakland in exchange for Trevor Cahill and Craig Breslow. Parker pitched decently in his first two seasons with the Athletics before requiring his second Tommy John surgery. An attempt to return to action last spring cracked to a halt - a broken pitching elbow resulted in another complicated elbow surgery (not TJS though). Now a free agent, Parker will probably hunt for a club with openings in the rotation like the Padres. There's no update on his timetable to return. (Brad Johnson)

The Quick Opinion: Parker broke his elbow last spring - his third traumatic injury to his pitching elbow. Still only 28 years old, he's vowed to return from his latest setback. The mind is willing, but is the elbow able?
