Profile: Escobar’s fantasy value has declined as his stolen bases have dropped. He had value when he was able to hit near .300 with 30 stolen bases, but now he’s the player owners begrudgingly pick off the waiver wire when they need to fill a hole at shortstop or middle infield. The 30-year-old has seen his one useful trait, steals, drop to 17 over the past two season. While they’re useful, they are the only positive fantasy aspect of Escobar’s game. He has never hit more than seven home runs. He never walks. He has posted a .257 and .261 average the past two seasons, which almost reaches his modest .264 career mark. One positive "trait" is that Ned Yost thinks Escobar is a leadoff hitter, so he will get a ton at-bats and chances for runs. More of the same results should be expected this season unless the Royals finally move him down in the lineup and his value plummets even further. (Jeff Zimmerman)

The Quick Opinion: Escobar's moderate value hinges on hitting at the top of the Royals lineup and stealing bases. Both of those could end in 2017.
