Profile: Fantasy owners may be tempted to give Vargas a little love after his short major league stint with a borderline elite strikeout and walk rate last year. His production would place him near the likes of Johnny Cueto, John Lackey, Drew Pomeranz, and Kyle Hendricks. Time to return from La-La land. It was only three starts, and he threw a total 12 innings. His fastball velocity was down 1.5 mph and his batting average on balls in play was at .219. Vargas' production should be at or worse than his 2011 to 2015 seasons, when he had 6 strikeouts per nine innings and a ~4.00 ERA. He is unplayable in most leagues except AL-only and 20-team or deeper formats. (Jeff Zimmerman)

The Quick Opinion: Vargas's 2016 results should be ignored. He should be used only in spot starts.
