Profile: Man, Gomes did his best to redefine what "forgettable season" means, as he hit just .167 and posted a sad .225 wOBA. Unfortunately (or fortunately given how his season was going), his year was cut short by a shoulder injury that limited him to just two plate appearances since mid-July. What's interesting is that his disastrous offensive performance was entirely due to a pathetic .189 BABIP. His walk and strikeout rates, along with his ISO, were all nearly identical to his 2015 season. But he suddenly lost the ability to hit line drives, all of which became fly balls and pop-ups. This was likely randomness and he'll be back to normal in 2017, but who knows. Given his poor plate discipline, he's unlikely to ever repeat that 2014 performance again, but he should rebound enough to be a respectable second catcher option in mixed leagues. (Mike Podhorzer)

The Quick Opinion: Talk about disastrous season, Gomes would like to remove his 2016 performance from his record. But most of his underlying skills remained stable and assuming he could get his batted ball profile back to normal, he should rebound at least mildly.
