God never wrought miracles to convince atheism, because his ordinary works convince it.

This is my first year in Ottoneu, so I’m finding these articles very interesting. I’d definitely vote for Pedroia. In looking at your team, you really need a 2B. However, it looks to me like you also need an OF and who couldn’t use another good SP? But Pedroia is the clear choice to me from Leftovers. From Gerbils, it is a lot less clear. I see 3 good candidates: Strasburg, Espinosa and Jennings. You dismissed Jennings rather quickly but only two of your OFs are any better. I think he is worthy of more consideration. I think Gerbils may be hurt the most by losing Espinosa. There is no replacement on roster there at SS. Plus he is elgible at both 2B and SS. Strasbug is a unique talent; everyone should want him. There are 2 outcomes of voting for Strasbug. One is that you are going to pay a very high price, as you said maybe $50. Are you willing to go that high for him? The other is that someone else will use up a big chunk of their available dollars on him, leaving more available players (Pedroia, etc) for you. So who to pick? Well, I guess my answer is “it depends”. Since you only discussed 2 of the teams in your league, it depends on who else you might be able to make available from the other teams. If you don’t have any other viable MI options, then vote for Espinosa. You can even use both Pedroia and Espinosa. Otherwise I would go for Strasbug.

On your team, at first glance my candidates were Bautista, Zimmerman, Weaver, Zimmermann, Wilson. Based on length of track record and maybe innings limits next season, I would eliminate Zimmermann first. Wilson is a little riskier since we don’t know where he will be pitching next season. Personally, I’m a bit afraid of Zimmerman because of his injury history. So for me it comes down to Bautista and Weaver. Bautista is the biggest home run threat around but he’s no spring chicken. Weaver is awfully good and young, he pitches in a friendly ballpark and that is not likely to change any time soon. But pitching is always risky to some degree (see Wainwright, Strasbug, de la Rosa). I’d probably go for Bautista. [I have Bautista for $25 in my league and expect him to get voted off.]

When will the arbitration for all players, not just “vote off’s”, be finalized? Would like to see this process complete before we cast our final votes for players on each team.

If by arbitration, you mean salaries increasing, I believe that happened tonight. Definitely happened for my roster.

I tend to lean towards taking the best values off of other teams rather than focusing primarily on my needs. In my experience, the $5 discount tends to be enough that people generally get back the guys voted off their team. So my assumption isn’t so much that Strasburg, Espinosa, or Jennings is available to me, but that I can force the Gerbils owner to increase his spend – and even if I think Jennings is a better fit for my team, Strasburg is the better value.

Agreed with you on Zimmermann and Zimmerman, but Wilson doesn’t seem that risky to me. Seems like any move would be an improvement. Texas is the worst pitching park in baseball. I suppose a move to the AL East would be bad, but almost anything else would be a huge step up. As for Bautista, I agree he is hugely undervalued, but having to pay him $40 or $45 instead of $31 would be okay with me.
