  1. I’m not really sure why we need compensation for lost free agents in the first place. Type A, B, or anything else. If you don’t want to lose a guy, pony up the cash and resign him, or extend him before it gets that far.

    Even for Type As, losing the draft pick doesn’t bother the big spenders or anyone courting the real stud FAs. It only affects the marginal Type As (I’m looking at you Juan Cruz) and the mid/small market teams who absolutely count on having those early round picks. I don’t think that was the inteded effect…

  2. You missed one from 2008: Mike Montgomery is David Riske. (Probably because Montgomery is not listed on most Type B comp pick lists for that year. Riske, though, was definitely a type B.)

  3. #$%&! Figured I’d miss one. B-ref has a nice listing of all supplemental picks but Montgomery isn’t listed. I wonder why? Thanks for the heads up.
