  1. Splitting hairs…Odorizzi was the Brewers supplemental round pick in 2008. Brett Lawrie was their first round pick.

  2. I’m a little surprised that with all the guys who get “future reliever” tagged on them with minimal justification, I’ve never seen it about Odorizzi. Yet he is probably smaller than Aaron Crow. And his stuff is not as good. Again, since I’ve never seen the reliever tag slapped on him, which tends to happen with all small starters, I was shocked at his size when I saw him at the Futures Game. Yordano Ventura HAS been tagged as a future reliever, and I didn’t think Odorizzi was any bigger.

I don’t personally believe a guy should be consigned to the pen because of size, but if you’re looking for a reason why a guy with a lot of ability can’t go more than 5 and 2/3 on a regular basis in the PCL, that might be something to think about. Might be a little cautious here on him, especially since Ned Yost is both insane and fashions himself as an old-timey baseball sage. You think there are only a couple different scenarios for how Odorizzi gets used in fifteen games? Then you just don’t know Ned.
