  1. I think Jesus Montero will have a much better sophmore season due to the fact that Safeco Fields walls from left to right-center field have been brought in a considerable amount, which will improve power numbers. He hit at least 4 singles off the CF wall in 2012, and a few off the tall wall in left, which will be homers in 2013.

  2. Montero can increase his slugging % just be learning how to RUN. There’s no way you should be held to a single if you hit it on the fly off the left-field wall at Safeco. There’s no way you shouldn’t be able to go from first to third if the guy hitting behind you hits one off the right field wall. Both scenarios happened multiple times to Montero. He’s slower than a turtle, clogs the bases for those behind him and his running style looks like he’s playing “whack-a-mole” with his legs. If the Mariners don’t have someone working with him on his running during the offseason then they’re just plain stupid.

  4. M’s were ripped off, they traded Pineda for the Giants’ Hector Sanchez.

  5. Lookout Landing commenters (the M’s SBN blog), regularly refer to him as QWOP. Just google QWOP if you don’t know.

  6. From a fantasy perspective, I believe he will be pretty good next year. I have more serious doubts about him as a long term player for my team, The Mariners. He needs to walk more, a lot more, if he’s going to be a DH. The Seattle FO has basically decided he’s not a catcher…

  7. I think we’re overlooking the Home/Road splits a bit here. Obviously we should expect Montero to be better at home this year with the fences moving in, but even ignoring that, on the road he went .295/.330/.438 total. I would like to know how he did on the road against RHP but play him against lefties AND against righties on the road and you have probably as many starts as the average MLB catcher since he’ll be playing tons of DH. You’ve got yourself a solid catcher. I think he’s going to be WAY underrated in fantasy leagues with big benches.

  11. I prefer guys who unclog the bases. They should call Miguel Cabrera “The Plumber”.

  12. You mean they traded a guy who’s never going to throw another major league pitch for a guy who is actually going to continue playing professional baseball, and you’re somehow unhappy about that?
