Deep League Waiver Wire: Chris Getz, Rick Ankiel, Felipe Lopez

Here are three players to keep your eye on in deeper leagues.
Chris Getz | 2% Owned (Y!) | 1% Owned (ESPN)
In terms of fantasy baseball, I’ve always been a Chris Getz fan-boy. I’m not exactly sure why, but a second baseman who could hit .275 with 20-plus steals is always someone to keep on your radar. Getz hasn’t yet hit .275 in his career, but g-d it I think he will. On the plus side, Getz doesn’t strike out all that often, and he does have the ability to steal bases, as he’s stolen 42 bags in his last 47 attempts. Getz has also been hitting at the top of the Royals lineup on occasion, so he could have some value in the “runs” category.
Rick Ankiel | 1% | 2%
Depending on how deep your league is, Rick Ankiel may already be owned, but if my leagues are a representative sample, he won’t be. Ankiel’s value will come mostly from the fact that he’ll play almost every day for the Nationals, a fact that can’t be overlooked in deeper leagues. Unfortunately, Ankiel has been hitting sixth in the Nationals batting order, limiting his chances to drive in guys like Jayson Werth and Ryan Zimmerman. If you’re simply in need of another outfielder to fill out your roster, Ankiel will hit you some homers, hopefully without killing your batting average.
Felipe Lopez | 1% | 1%
Michael Barr touched on Lopez on Saturday, and I’ll add a little bit more here. Lopez may have been an afterthought during the offseason, but don’t forget that this is a guy who hit .310/.383/.427 in 2009, as well as hitting .283/.343/.387 in 2008. Over his career, he’s had a couple years where he counting stats made an impact, but there hasn’t been one of those years since 2007. Lopez is worth putting on your “Watch List,” as he’ll get some at-bats against righties and take some walks when he gets the chance, at least until Evan Longoria returns.
