Fangraphs Consensus Rankings Spreadsheet With Projection System Averages

It may not be in time for all drafts but hopefully this latest update is in time for your draft. Because that’s all we care about – you.

What you’ll find in this spreadsheet is the consensus rankings by position, as ranked by Eno Sarris, Mike Podhorzer, Zach Sanders and Jeff Zimmerman. You’ll also notice an accompanying stat line, which is the average projection of the Zips, Steamer and Fans projection systems (and just Steamer and Zips where a Fans projection wasn’t available).

You’ll also notice “composite” tabs for batters and pitchers, showing these average projections for a larger pool of players. Finally, there is a “sanity consideration” tab which simply shows the sum of each system compared to the 2013 reality – in short, be wary of the Zips playing time projections, which also work to slightly inflate the playing time for lower-ranked players (note that this can be useful as an “if they play” exercise, it’s just worth keeping in mind).

Click here to download the spreadsheet, and happy drafting!

Important Note: Until 9 a.m. Eastern, the sheet pulled BB for pitchers instead of K. It has been fixed and re-uploaded, sorry for the temporary inconvenience.

I hate you for not doing this sooner.

    Also, thanks.

This is great. You have the vlookup for pitcher strikeouts on BB’s.

Both the SP and RP tabs pull BB instead of K from the composites.

Sorry to nitpick; this is truly awesome work.

Thanks so much for doing this! Unfortunately I was unable to Uncompress the file once it downloaded. The compressed file turns into another compressed file and then back again.
    I’m on a MacBook Pro running 10.6.8
I tried the suggestions found here: http://osxdaily.com/2013/02/13/open-zip-cpgz-file/
but they didn’t work. The “Unarchiver” turned it into a folder with a lot of Excel-looking elements, but no spreadsheet.
It’s probably just me. If so, I can live without it.

Well you guys just made me hate myself for taking a week to create my own projections of my top 400 or so players, based off ZiPS, Steamer, and my own thoughts. Of course, I had a good time doing it, but that’s not the point! Now to see how close my projections are to yours…

  7. BooBoo Berra says:

Any chance you can get the spreadsheet to pull OBP for hitters as well? I’m in a 6×6 that uses OBP. I know I may be asking a lot but with Fangraphs readers I figure OBP might be a more popular category to have.

I can try tonight and maybe re-post with JUST the composite stats. The reason I didn’t include here is that the consensus rankings assume AVG, and I didn’t want to confuse by showing AVG rankings and OBP stats.

      • BooBoo Berra says:

Completely understand that. People can adjust afterwards for obp, you’d just make it a lot easier for them and it’d be much appreciated.

A second vote for OBP info, if that counts for anything.

if i want to make a overall ranks based on these projections, how do a derive a value for each player (like HR*factor + SB*factor…….) what are these factors

If I took the ZIPS & Steamer projections from a few weeks ago and averaged them, will my projections be noticeably different? Has steamer or ZIPS been updated since say end of February? Also to try and make my projections as accurate as possible, since ZIPS seems to overrate playing time is it best to use Steamer exclusively for playing time estimates?

Bonifacio is not on the batter composites, so naturally nothing is being pulled for his 2b vlookup

Ahhh right, remember seeing that and meant to fix it. Will fix later on. Believe the issue is he only had one projection at the time of download (no Steamer playing time, not enough Fans votes).

Thanks for putting this together. I’d love to see a list that substitutes OBP and Slug for Average and Homers if it’s a pretty simple alternative. I’m pretty surprised most leagues apparently don’t use OBP and Slugging.

Great stuff Blake. Will this spreadsheet be updated periodically as projections get updated for playing time, injuries, etc.?

Looks like anyone who switched leagues is still in last year’s league. Trumbo, Choo, Beltran etc.
