Ever since I have noticed him pitching this, I have looked for him to pitch it. Whenever he does pitch it, I see a better future for that pitch than his curveball, and perhaps even his fastball. It sounds insane, I know, but that slider looks vicious, and would fool more batters than his curve I'd imagine, even though he's got one of the top curves in baseball.

The numbers remind me of Ankiel.

Kershaw was harder to hit.
Ankiel was younger (20 to 21)
Ankiel k'd more.
Both walked their share.

However, Ankiel's did it in the year 2000 (scoring was up that year).

And as Kershaw kicks the crud out of the NL west for the next decade, I wonder what Ankiel's career as a pitcher could have looked like.

Matt, i think its because he doesnt 100% trust it and is a little cautious the 2nd time through the lineup. Next year, it should be fine...

i have watch every kershaw game since his slider has come out.... this guys slider is GREAT for the first few innings... then he cant throw it and bounces it every time.... is this because he is tired? or hes still learning it.? and then russell martin keeps calling for it and that is why kershaw had so many wild pitches in the 5th inning of the last game....
