Dallas is doing a darn good job. I eventually see him as a "lefty" reliever.

Hoffman was consistently in the mid-90s before his second round of shoulder problems around 2001-2003. The reason he is still effective is because of how good his change up is. Since he throws it with identical arm speed, it has dropped velocity in tandem with his fastball and he has maintained his deception. Additionally, his slider has always been significantly underrated.

The important quote, from right below the first chart
"For a fastball that averages 86.5 mph ...."

i dont know much about his velocity when he was younger but he hasnt been a "fireballer" for a long time

How could you possibly see a guy with an 89 MPH fastball as a closer?

Does anybody know the likelyhood that he will be moved to relief in the future? I can see him as a closer, but I doubt he'll stay a starter with Oakland being full of pitching talent unless he gets traded
