I really think Rasmus could be the second coming of Jim Edmonds both offensively and defensively... perhaps with a little less batting average from his prime... more of the 2005 Edmonds with more speed.

Thanks for the info on Rasmus. I'm a huge Cardinals fan and have Rasmus in a keeper league going into 2009. I get him free going into 2009 but must sign him to a contract afterwards if I want to keep him long term. Any player comparisons you see for Rasmus and peak level performance over the next three years or so? Just trying to gauge just how good he might be.

I think Joe Mather deserves a shot at starting somewhere. He looks like a classic late bloom who basically showed nothing before 2006, but has now made steady progress moving up a level each year. His .303/.395/.630 line at AAA in 2008 is very nice and wasn't built on luck (only .297 BABIP). While his .241/.306/.474 line in the majors wasn't great, he was quite unlucky (.258 BABIP with 21.6% LD). He showed good power (.233 ISO) and I'm guessing further experience in the majors would let him adjust a little, as he has done at each of the past couple levels. Also, he didn't have any platoon splits at AAA and showed a reverse platoon (small sample size alert) in the majors (meaning he hit RHP fine).

Give the man a chance!
