This may be true. I’m not familiar with the caveats of minor league defense, especially for infielders, but Minor League Splits puts him slightly below average with their TotalZone metrics. Besides ’06 in A+, which seems to be an anomaly, he’s consistently posted number between -5 and 0 (and over 150 games no worse than -7 runs). Not very good, but certainly significantly better than anything you would expect from Cristian Guzman.

This is one of the better segments on the site. Would love to see an analysis of Travis Snider and his expected production over the next few years. Also wish there was a way to rank prospects and their “hype” factor from year to year.

Despite the early hype about Ian Desmond’s defense, it’s been atrocious by some measures. I know fielding % and errors aren’t great measures, but when you see him right aroudn .950 in fielding % at high A, AA, and AAA, you begin to wonder. I know minor league data is not so great, and that we really should not be looking at errors, but do you know of anyone still thinking he’s good defensively? It may be a bigger block to him than his bat.

Towles has still been quite productive this year in AAA. Maybe Houston can give the guy a break and trade him to an organization that is willing to give him another shot.
