You're ignoring that Moss and Morgan have much less value than McLouth, and to say McLouth would be "a tremendous corner" is just silly.

His bat doesn't look so great once you move him from CF (where he really shouldn't be playing anyway).

Do I think the Pirates should have gotten more? Well, yes, as the Braves were pretty desperate for an OF bat, but I'm no GM (for good reason) and Huntington hasn't done anything to make me think he's not a good one. Littlefield he isn't.

No, you weren't harsh at all. Mcclouth....or some 25 year old pitcher whose minor league stats "aren't all that bad"?

So, what do we get from Hanson here on out? He seems a bit more ready than most young pitchers. Usually, you get a lot of walks, high pitch counts, and a 5th inning exit. Will Hanson do better than that in 2009?

I think I was a bit harsh. The more I look at it the less I hate it. Morton's minor league numbers don't look all that bad.

At some point you have to wonder whether the Pirates really want to win at all. This is obviously a money move. McLouth would have been a tremendous corner outfielder relative to his cost and allowed the Pirates to move either Brandon Moss or Nyjer Morgan in a trade for something. However, McLouth makes more money than either of them do, or ever will, and so he was traded.

It seems that the Pirates are more than willing to be just good enough to draw just enough fans to break even, and then use the profit from revenue sharing, TV rights ect to make a small but reliable profit. They take no risks, and thus they have no real chance to ever compete.

A complete waste of a franchise.

Poor poor Pittsburgh. McClouth signed cheap til '11 and they go and do this.
Everyone that posts in Fangraphs comments threads can run that ship better than they do.
