Being a fan of the Twins, Soria is by my account, the best closer in the AL Central. When you consider his age and stuff, he nudges out Nathan by a nose. Maybe Soria is the “second” best rule 5 pick ever behind Johan Santana.

Soria is locked up through 2014 already (if the Royals exercise club options, which they will most likely). The Royals actually spend money now.

Here’s another stat for you that I read from another website citing Bill James Gold Mine 2009. Soria led the league with 36 “1-2-3″ innings – how’s that for closer material? K-Rod, who led the league is saves, had only 22 “1-2-3″ innings. Not only is he a 5-pitch pitcher, but he also has the mental make-up and control to be elite closer. Let’s hope the Royals keep him for as long as possible and not cash him in with a big market team when the going gets tough.
