The minute he was released my first thought was "Towers will be all over this". While not predicting a huge amount of success for Hill this year...and at the risk of being labeled a Towers apologist, this is precisely the type of move that Padres fans should remember when evaluating the total work of Kevin Towers as GM. He is as good as anyone in the game at low-risk cast off signings and minor - fly under the radar trades.

Padres fans that have a dose of realism about the impact of the Moores divorce and the upcoming season of struggle should applaud the fact that Towers is still doing decent work with such financial restrictions dealt to him.

I like this move despite its EXPECTED marginal value added. Then again, under the banner of positive deviation from that mean, I could see him being the Pads third best starter this year.
