Its important to note Rodney is doing something different though - He has scrapped his slider and is throwing more strikes. That is a real, tangible difference. There is a reason he has looked better this year.

I'm not willing to go that far in praising Rodney; his stuff has looked pretty good so far, and he hasn't blown a save yet, but he still needs to prove he can be consistent. Lack of consistency has bothered him in the past.

But, either way, it's about time the Closer Report gives the guy some respect. They're not going to thrust Zumaya in that role with his injury history, and Bobby Seay is just not ever going to be a closer. It's downright ignorant to refer to his job security as "slim to none" at this point with, like Greg said, "a lack of viable alternatives."

Agree completely. Rodney and Fuentes are getting disrespected pretty badly in most stuff I see. Rodney looks like a different pitcher this year. Fuentes biggest flaw is not being KRod. They are two of the better relief pitchers around.

I don't really think Rodney's job is as insecure as you think. Brandon Lyon has looked terrible, and Ryan Perry hasn't been particularly impressive either.

I'd put Francisco in the death grip category, at least for this season. Right now I cannot imagine a scenario that would put any other Ranger arm in the closer slot. Francisco is not only pitching well, he has the trust of his teammates and manager. Both Washington and some of his players were quoted yesterday as having absolute confidence in him.

Agreed. I dealt for Francisco before the season with high hopes and he has more than delivered so far.

I believe that it won't be long before Francisco's name is mentioned with the Nathan's, Papelbon's, and Rivera's. His control problems have completely vanished and his splitter helps make sure he doesn't give up too many fly balls in Texas that could turn into homers.

Fernando Rodney's middle name should be "lack of viable alternatives"
