Well written article. I didn’t see any mention of the broken hand he suffered on the last day of the ’07 season. Hand and wrist injuries are the most difficult to recover from and he had both. He might regress slighty this year because of his age and because he won’t have Alou as protection in the lineup but Delgado will not be the problem in ’09.

As a met fan who watches most met games, I can attest to the effect of his wrist surgery had on his swing. In 07 and the beginning of 08, Delgado couldnt catch up to anything on the inner half, which used to be his bread and butter. Once he was able to turn on the inside fastball, assuming this was when his wrist finally healed, Delgado turned back into the power hitting 1B we were accustomed to seeing.
