Roto Riteup: May 8th, 2012

Today’s Roto Riteup is a little “rambly.” Or is it “rambley?” The internet has failed to answer my question.

• Have you hung onto Ubaldo Jimenez this long? If you have, it may be time to just let go and move on, even after his seven-inning shutout of the Rangers this weekend. Jimenez has walked more batters than he’s struck out, and he’s not going to succeed if he keeps going down that path. After Sunday, I’d consider giving him another start to see if he bounces back, but after that, I’m done.

• Bryan LaHair is having a really crazy season. Despite striking out almost one-third of the time, LaHair has hit seven homers in less than 100 trips to the plate. His batting average is also a ridiculous .390, and the lefty has hit safely in all but four of the games he’s played in.

• Dear everyone who made fun of me for constantly taking Jason Hammel of Jeff Niemann: you can suck it. Granted, Hammel is a completely different pitcher now, but I’m going to claim that I knew this would happen and that he had this in him all along. All along, I tell you!

• Some may think that Ernesto Frieri moving away from Petco could be a bad thing for his fantasy value. However, I think the opposite may be true. Frieri may get a chance to save games in LA, while in San Diego, he would have likely been third in line behind Andrew Cashner.

For those of you who play daily fantasy games like FanGraphs: The Game, or just like to stream players, here are a couple matchups you may be able to exploit.

A Pitcher for Today: Joe Blanton vs NYM
There aren’t many options out there for streaming, and even though Blanton’s at home, I like his chances.

A Pitcher for Tomorrow: Drew Smyly at SEA
Seattle’s offense stinks, and most of the decent hitters are lefties. Put Drew Smyly in Safeco and you have yourself an ace.

A Hitter for Today: The Rockies at SDP (Jeff Suppan)
Suppan is just not very good, and even in Petco, go with hitters on the Rockies.
