Roto Riteup — Presented by DraftKings: July 7, 2014

Y’all are stuck with me through Thursday this week with no interruption from Wiers, so I suggest you prepare your diddly-holes accordingly. Here’s Monday’s Roto Riteup.

On today’s agenda:
1. Brandon McCarthy to the Yankees
2. Jeff Samardzija dominates in AL
3. Chase Headley to the Blue Jays?
4. Rubby De La Rosa to start Wednesday
5. The Foolhardy Five

Brandon McCarthy to the Yankees
In some sort of proportional response to the A’s acquiring Jeff Samardzija and the Angels getting Joe Thatcher, the Yankees have acquired Brandon McCarthy in a salary dump by the Diamondbacks. McCarthy seemingly has produced a good season if you look at FIP and whatnot, but his BABIP is driven by hard contact, which isn’t going to correct itself with simple regression. McCarthy’s been reliant on his sinker this year, and the Yankees have one of the worst infield defenses in all of the baseball, so that could be bad times if he keeps with his current approach. McCarthy may get an extra win or two in the second half, but this doesn’t really alter his fantasy value in any meaningful way.

Jeff Samardzija dominates in AL
Shark went up against the Blue Jays in Toronto in what was his first start for the Athletics. Shark threw seven innings, striking out five, walking one, and allowing just one batter to cross the line. Prior to last night’s start, Samardzija had thrown 66.1 innings against the AL, earning an ERA of 4.61, but this was mostly before he perfected his craft.

Chase Headley to the Blue Jays?
There is a hot rumor floating around that the Blue Jays are in pursuit of one Mr. Headley, and a deal could be reached in the not-so-distant future. Headley has been stuck in San Diego for his entire career, so moving to not-so-spacious Toronto would do wonders for his power numbers. The Yankees are also interested in the third baseman, and their ballpark would also be sweet and sassy.

Rubby De La Rosa to start Wednesday
Just a heads up for those of you in weekly leagues that can still do roster moves today.

The Foolhardy Five

SP: Marco Estrada | $7,400 | vPHI
SP: James Shields | $7,700 | @TB
SS: Brad Miller | $3,000 | vMIN (Kevin Correia)
OF: Chris Denorfia | $3,600 | @COL (Tyler Matzek)
OF: Giancarlo Stanton | $5,500 | @ARZ (Chase Anderson)

It seems like a waste for the Mariners to travel back to Seattle when they could have just stayed in the Midwest to face the Twins.

I believe you have a minor typo in the Shark paragraph. You wrote, “Shark went up against the Blue Jays in Toronto in what was his first start against the Athletics.” You should replace the word “against” with the word “for.”

I’ll take it you missed out on Shields great game while Stanton got you nothing. This is why you don’t call people out. On the daily’s you nor I have any idea what will transpire so it’s best to keep our mouths shut.

“moving to spacious Toronto would do wonders for his power numbers”

Is that really what you mean? Or “less specious”?

Pick one for the rest of the year: Stroman, McHugh, or T.Ross

I wanna say Stroman, Ross, McHugh.

Love Stroman’s stuff and on a winning, high scoring club; Ross has been fuego and can prob keep it up for the most part; McHugh doesnt have much going for him besides all those Ks.
