Any chance you guys can touch on Despaigne’s value in a 12 team mixer?

A general discussion topic that has been bothering me: what do we do when pitching peripherals fail? By that I mean what do we do when a pitcher has a very good K%-BB%, good whiff rates on several pitch types, and sometimes even a good GB rate and/or good velocity but poor results in ERA/WHIP? Examples include: Kluber last year, Salazar this year, Estrada, McCarthy, Chase Whitley (after today’s disaster). It looks like they have the tools they need to succeed, but they are “hittable” and give up lots of hits and/or HR. Is there a way to identify these types of pitchers? I thought I was sneaky picking up McCarthy because his xFIP was so much lower than his ERA and he had good whiff rates, increased velocity, and good GB rates, but I am tired of 10 H, 5 ER performances.
